' Wellington, May 23. , It is ofßcially notified that the posting pf officers from the Expeditionary Force t'o the Territorials is suspended. Officers of'the Territorial Force, holding higher 'status in the Expeditionary Force, who -after March 25, 1919, are struck off the strength, will be temporarly posted to the reserve list, in which they will retain the rank acquired on active service. These will be regarded as a "Snspense" from) which officers will afterwards be posted to (a) the active list of the Territorials; (b) the reserve of officers; (c) the retired list. Those considered unsuitable for Territorial service, or desiring to terminate their commissions, will be retired or otherwise disposed of.' It is intended to accomimodate officers from the Expeditionary JEorce "in the Territorial Force with the (ranks gained on active service, in so |far as the interests of the service will permit, but a general allotment will not be possible till demobilisation has further progressed. IMPROVING COUNTY ROADS. Whakatanc, May 23. The County Council yesterday adapted a scheme for an £BO,OOO loan to put the county roads in first class order, probably by tarring the Whakatane-Taneatu* and Whakatane-Awakeri roads. Hornsby, M:P., that the Cabinet has agreed to the establishment of a new colliery near Nine Mile Point, West Coast, and cteps will be taken to put in hand the construction necessary of a branch railway as early as possible. At Christchurch to-dav John William Watkins, a passenger clerk in the New Zealand Shipping Company's office, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court to defalcations amounting to £240, consisting of amounts paid in by various customers, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Trotter's (Kurow) Captain Poee, which scored in two runs 03 points: L. O'Connor's (Ngapara) Kauroo Don was second with 02; C. C. Gray's (Springfield) Boas Junior third, with 01; T. H. Bennett's (Kaikoura) Gale foujth, with 60; and'T. Hogg's (Albury) Whitney Rose fifth, with 54. J. Trotter (Kurow) was the runner-up with Scot, which scored 50 points. COAL COMMISSION'S REPORT. AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION. Wellington, Last Night. The Hon. J. A. Hasan informed a deputation to-day that'he had called a conference of instructors, and lectures on agricultural education are to be held ut Wellington early next month, with the object of formulating a more definite, I uniform, and progressive system of eduI cation in respect to agriculture. He realised the enormous importance to ' this country of that branch of education, and it was time a forward step in the matter was taken. IMPROVING CONDITIONS OF MINERS Jnvercargill, Last Night. Sir James Allen stated that the Government would shortly make public a scheme for making miners' work more attractive. EXPEDITIONARY FORCE STATISTICS Invercargill, May 23. The latest figures of forces show the oversea strength in France at S% and in the United Kingdom 1813.
