HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER.

MEETING AT ELTHAM. Mr. G. D. Gbw, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, presided at a meeting of delegates of local bodies and dairy factories at Elthom on Thursday evening. Mr. Gow stated that Sir William Fraser ha 4 led them to believe that Taranaki might benefit from the Government scheme in five years, but, yersonnlly, he believed in Mr. Parry, who stated it would be ten to fifteen years. The meeting would have to decide whether to wait for the Government, avail themselves of the New Plymouth scheme, or provide a scheme of their own. In Teply to Mr. Belcher, the chairman stated that he did not think the New Plymouth Borough Council required money to develop their scheme. Mr. Belcher thought New Plymouth might quote them at price at which to supply power. I Mr. Tayler said there might possibly Ibe a change in the Government, and a Inew party might push the national ischeme ahead, but the chairman believed they could not expect much expedition from the Government scheme.

Mr. Anderson stated that the Manga - toki Dairy Company were prepared to vote £IOO to assisting to obtain the necessary information, provided local bodies and companies also assisted. Mr. Carman believed the New Plymouth power—4ooo h.p.—would be ample for the district. (0000 to 7.000 is the h.p. that can be developed.—Editor, Taranaki Daily News.) Regarding a power board, they would first need to set up a committee to obtain information as to power required, power available, and the facts respecting transmission lines, etc. Eventually it -was resolved that a committee be set up to obtain a report on the sources of power available in the district, and report to a future meeting, local bodies and companies to appoint their delegates to the committee, and Mr. Gow to convene tho meeting of delegates when necessary.—Abridged from* Argus.
