THE RACING DESCRIBED. (By Telegraph.—Special to News.) Wanganui, Last Night. Proceedings commenced with the Borouj/i Handicap, in which Tirana and H/ginas were withdrawn. Demos, always favorite, and drawing number one position, was fully entitled to favoritism. All moved off to a splendid start, the favorite showing up first in front, and making play along the back to Inah, Camel Arch, Birkenvale, and Silver Link. There was no change in crossing the top, but turning for home Carmel Arch was lying second to Demos. The favorite had something in hand, however, ,and, stalling off Carmel Arch's challenge, won comfortably by a clear length, Royal Chef being third a similar distance away. Then name Volo, Movement, Damien, and Post Haste.
All acceptors started in the Hack Steeples, and it was a good betting race between Polthogue, Grafton Tot, and Master Webster, a couple of hundred tickets separating the trio, with Polthogue the public choice. Tornea made the early running to Grafton Tot, Master Webster, and Polthogue, but going over the brush double opposite the stands Polthogue, Grafton Tot, and Hoatu were practically together, just ahead of Master Webster. Going along the back the lastnamed ran up to the favorite, which held a slight advantage over Master Webster. Safely over the last obstacle, Polthogue went on to win a good race by two and a-half lengths from Master Webster, with Grafton Tot nearly twenty lengths away third. Wen came Hoatu, Tornea, and Torchy last. Both first and second horses jumped beautifully. Gaekwar was scratched for the Wanganui Steeplechase, leaving another sixhorse field. The public went for the two top-weights, Master Strowan winding up a better fancy than Coalition, with Bore also coming in for a share of support. There was also a limited amount on hand for Foeman and Yellow and Black, with Arlington the outsider of the party. As usual, Arlington was sent out early to make the running, and passing the stands the first time the outsider was leading Bore, Foeman, Coalition, and Yellow and Black, with Master Ktrowan last. There was little change the second time round, Arlington still making the running. Six furlongs from home he was still in the van, being in front of Coalition, Boro, Master Strowan, Foeman, and Yellow and Black. The favorite was almost on terms with Coalition entering the straight, but, although Master Strowan challenged Coalition, the latter stalled him off, and won by four lengths, with Bore six lengths away third. Arlington was I fourth, and Foeman next.
Yellow and Black fell at the hencoop, the last obstacle, at the bottom of the straight, and broke his back. In the Kaitoke Hack Hurdles no mistake was made by the public in trusting their money to Omahu, which carried a lot more than Loehelk and Gunwale.
Mode set off at a great bat but soon came bock to his field, the order going out of the straight being Omaliu, Mode, Lochella, Gunwale, and Berenice. The favorite and Lochella were going together at the half-mile post, leading Gunwale and Bernice, but making a faulty jump at the next fence caused Lochella" to fall back, Omahu showing the way into the straight to Gunwale, Bernice, and Lochella, the other pair being well back. In the run to the judge Omahu got the verdict over hard-ridden Gunwale by two lengths, Bernice three lengths away third. Lochella was close up >fonrth, and Sturdee and Mode came home at long intervals.
All the acceptors went to the post in the Century Hurdles, the top weight, Paraoa, being always slightly better favorite than Yankee Jack, a fair measure of suport being also accorded Seadown, Euripos, and Whiro, with Otter neglected. After a couple of breakaways, the field moved off together, Munater immediately going to the front and leading out of the straight from Whiro, Yankee Jack, and Euripos, with Paraoa last, the field being very strung out. With a mile left behind, Munster and Whiro were together in the lead, and in the straight being still followed in that order by Yankee Jack, Euripos, Seadown, and Far&oa. Going the back Euripos and Seadown moved up, and wero running along in front at the half mile, Yankee Jack and Paraoa lying next. Euripos was two lengths in front of Seadown negotiating the last fence, and went on to win by this distance, Paraoa being third a conpie of lengths away, followed by Yankee Jack. Otter fell at the first fence and Munster at the last obstacle. Lambess, the rider of the former, broke a collarbone. The time was a record for the race.
There were no defections from the big flat race, the Conolly Handicap, which was a good betting race. Rewipoto was a hot favorite, but there waa plenty of money for Marqueteur, Risingham, and Client, this quartette carrying over four figures each. Trombone was first to show out from a good start, and led out of the straight, with Tressida, Risingham, and Marqueteur close up, Henry Clay lying in the rear. At the fivefurlong peg Marqueteur took command, and held across the top from Rewipoto and into the straight, at the bottom of which Client came through and challenged, but Marqueteur prevailed, and got the verdict by half-a-length, with Rewipoto four lengths away. Risingham was fourth, being followed home by Henry Clay, Detroit, Tressida, and Trombone. Simon and Bold Boy declined their engagement in the Purua Hack Handicap, in which the favorites were supplied in Cadet, Astinome, and Wapping, backed in that order. The race is easily described, Astinome being first from the barrier rise to the finish. Chasing the winner out of the ctraight were Cadet, Cello, and Bayberry, with Wapping last Astinome was a couple of lengths in the ipad of Bayberry. Signorelra, Ca-lct, and Wapping, and, going on, won very comfortably by njearly three lengths from Bayberry, with Cadet a head away, i The next to finish were Ben Bolt, Pomeroy, Wapping, and Cello. After the Wanganui Steeplechase F. Flynn, rider of Foeman, was fined £lO for careless riding, whereby Master Strowan was interfered with going out of the straight the second time round. The promoters of the Taranaki Trotting Club have just received an encouraging letter from Mr. W. M. Falconer, secretary of the Waugaaui Trotting Club,
enclosing the following resolutions passed by the Wanganui Club committee: "That thds committee welcomes the establishment of a trotting club at New Plymouth and undertakes to give the clnb every assistance in becoming mttfg
