FARMERS' UNION.

BELL BLOCK BRANCH. The annual meeting of the Bell Block branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held in the Bell Block Hall a few days ago. Mr. J. S. Connett presided. There was a fair attendance of members. The secretary's report showed that the branch had been formed eleven months ago, with a membership of 32 members. It was decided to hold meetings on the fh/st Monday in every month. Nine meetings have been held, with an average attendance of 20 members per meeting. The following subjects have been discussed: "Aims and achievements of the union"; "the dual purpose cows"; "manuring of our farm lands"; "abortion"; rearing of young calves"; "hand-milking v. machine-milking"; "roads and their upkeep"; "ways and means of increasing production"; "rating on unimproved values." The balance sheet showed a credit balance of £4 5s 9d.

The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr. J. S. Connett; vice-president, Mr. H. C. Sampson; secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. Ogle; executive committee, Messrs A. Jackson, J. H. Street, W. Hoskin, G. Longstaff, E. Marsh, L. Bishop, and J. Marsh; auditor, Mr. J. W. Downes; delegates to represent the branch at the provincial conference, Messrs Connett and Ogle. WAREA. Mr. G. H. Buckeridge, provincial organiser of the Farmers' Union, addressed a well-attended rrfeoting of fanners at Warea on Wednesday night on the aims and achievements of the union. Mr, I. Julian occupied the chair. The address was listened to with great interest, and at its close it was unanimously decided to form a branch of the union for Warea. Mr. I. Julian was elected chairman, Mr, Caldwell secretary and treasurer, and Mr. H. N. Chapman delegate to the conference. The date of the next meeting was left for the chairman to fix after the conference. All present handed in their names as ! members and agreed to actively canvass j tie district to make the Warea Branch a ! really strong one.
