TRAVELLING SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS.

The Senate of the New Zealand University has awarded the following scholarships for 1919: Engineering travelling scholarship, Oscar Dasper Borer, Canterbury College. Travelling scholarship in arts, Miss Catherine Christina Traddock, Victoria College. Travelling scholarship in medicine, Louis Amos Bennett, Otago University. FARMERS' SUCCESSFUL SEASON. Christchurch, May 22At the annual meeting of the North Canterbury Farmers' Association, the President (Mr D. Jones) in his address said that thfe season had been favorable especially for wheat growers. Experiments in growing lucerne proved that it coulu not be considered a commercial success on the bulk of Canterbury land. Though there was need for increased production, nothing definite had been done in connection with the establishing of a State Farm for Canterbury. With regard to immigration, the union should move cautiously for a while. The population required that only a useful type should be assisted. During the year the contract for the purchase of meat by the Imperial Government was extended to June 30, 1920, and, though the wisdom of this had been questioned by many fanners, events had proved it to be sound business on the part of producers SELECTION OP RHODES SCHOLAR POSTPONED. Dunedin, Last Night. Advice was received to-day that the selection of the New Zealand Rhodes scholar had been postponed till October 8 in order to give students on active service an opportunity to present their claims. The position with reference to tho 1851 scholarship is somewhat similar. The University Senate, which meets at Wellington this week, is .expected to postpone the award for a considerable time.
