The Smart Eoad Meat Works were started three years ago with a subscribed capital of £50,000. ' The stock dealt with was 34,950 sheep and lambs and 6266 cattle. Next year the numbers grew to 74,644 and 6561 respectively. This year they will be over 90,000 sheep and lambs and 8000 cattle. MORE CAPITAL IS REQUIRED To cope with the increase. That is why a resolution was passed on the 12th April authorising 10,000 additional shares of £5 each. Every farmer in the province should take up shares, for by assisting the industry he is also helping himself and getting at the same time a good investment for his money. What would be the Taranaki farmer's position to-day if the works were not here? He would have about 80,000 fat sheep and lambs on his hands, as well as 7000 head of cattle with absolutely no hope of getting them slaughtered this year. That would represent a dead loss of at least £70,000. Next year the available sheep and cattle will be far greater than ever. If the works are not extended the farmers will be in a hole. To avoid this and to get the best results frqm. the works—for the greater the volume of killing the cheaper the cost and the greater the profit THE MONEY MUST BE FOUND AT ONCE. So send for share application forms without delay. J. MILNE, General Manager
