ELTHAM.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
Eltham, May 23. The Eltham Dairy Factory is one of the largest co-operative concerns in Taranaki, if not in the Dominion, and its remarkable growth is mainly attributable to the energy and enterprise of the directors and staff. Tt is now some years since the company installed a cheese plant and building, the premises being considered one of the most convenient for handling suppliers' milk end working facilities. Many factories building later took the Elthain premises as a guide to their own structures, and now the company contemplate further improvements, not in building, hut in plant. To secure this they have resolved to send the manager, Mr. -R, H. Boyle> to America, where he will collect all possible information concerning the latest methods in use in the manufacture of cheese. The manager has been associated with the company for a good number of years, eighteen or more, and was appointed in succession to Mr. William Gwillim cveral years ago. The chairman of directors (Mr. H. D. Forsyth) is also leaving this month for America, having been appointed, with Mr. J. B. Murdoch, chairman of Joll's, to proceed to the United States in quest of information concerning dry milk, etc. At the last meeting of directors, farewells' were made to Messrs Forsyth and Boyle, both receiving presentations.
Several years back Eltham had a pipe band, which was of great assistance to the Coledonian Society, and the writer has many pleasant recollections of evenings spent with Pipers Angus McLeod (drowned at Pa tea a few years back), R. McTavish (also deceased), W. D. McLeod (now back from the war), W. S. McLeod, Joe Wade, R. J. Barr, and others. Recently a few bagpipe enthusiasts interested themselves in the formation of a band, and this has now been accomplished. There are eight pipers available, and probably others will join. The following officers were elected:Patrons, Messrs C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., O. W. Tayler, and J. Heslop; president, Mr. A. A. Stewart; vice-presidents, Messrs A. L. Campbell, J. L. Campbell, W. D. Ross, H. D. Forsyth, and W. J. Tristram; committee, Messrs J. lorns, W. McLeod, and Mcßae, with president and secretary ex officio,
