THE LICENSING POLL.

MISSTATEMENTS IN AUSTRALIA. Sydney, May 21. [Referring to the Rev, Mr Gray's denial of the allegation that the New Zealand Alliance received a cable inferring the manipulation of soldiers' votes, Mr Bruntnell states that the Rev. Mr Dawson, general secretory of the New Zealand Alliance, received a cable and read it to Mr 'Bruntnell. The message declared that the soldim' vote did not represent the true feelings of the men and that there had been some manipulation. Mr Dawson left hurriedly for America and may not have shown the cablegram to Mr Gray. [Note: From what the Rev. Mr Gray says it is evident that there has been a complete misunderstanding in Australia of the position. Before the referendum a vote was talken at Codford camp which resulted against prohibition. The Alliance received a message stating that other soldiers had protested that this trial vote was engineered. This is the message referred to in the foregoing, but it had nothing to do with the actual referendum.] VOTING ON TROOPSHIPS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, May 21.
