AUCKLAND TEAMWAYMEKKS ! WAGES. ! By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, May 21. The tramway workers will hold a. stopWork meeting at 3.30 this afternoon, when the officers of the union will interview the manager of the tramway company on the subject of increased pay, it being stated that the officers are being paid less than the other employees whose wages were advanced as the result of the recent agreement between the company, the City Council, and the Union. The manager is waiting for advice from the directors in London. This lias been long delayed, and the officers are pressing for an immediate reply to their demands.

HARDWARE EMPLOYEES' DISPUTE, Christchurch, May 21. The Conciliation. Council failed to agree as to the wages and hours of retail harware employees. A settlement is dependent on the conditions accepted by the drapers' conference nexit Friday. BURGLARIES AT ASHBURTON. Ashburton, May 21. Burglars entered the premises of D. Friedlander, auctioneer, last night, and obtained £35 from two cash-boxes located in the strong-room, having forced the locks of the latter. They also entered the premises of Friedlander Bros,, grain merchants, and of J. W. Bowden, accountant. They made a thorough search, documents being scattered in all directions, but obtained no cash. The school and rectory were visited but so far as is ascertainable nothing was stolen. This building was closed during the term holidays. Leonard Newman, on his return late in the evening, found that burglars had visited his house near the railway station. A cheque for a small sum was missing. Tools for opening windows, lock, etc., had evidently been obtained from the railway workshops, which had been broken into. A jemmy was found in D. Friedlander's office. TRAM SERVICE AND PEACE CIELEBSATIONS. Christchurch, Last. Night. The Tramway Employees' Union demands the same conditions as agreed upon by the Wellington tramwaymen in regard to work during the peace celebrations, threatening to stop tho service if these are not granted.
