ADVANCE IN PRICE OF HIDES. Sydney, May 20 At the first free sales of hides allowed for two years the prices paid at auction for sound sorts showed an advance of 2d to 5d per pound above the previously fixed rates., Cut and, faulty sorts showed an advance of Id to 3d. Advices received' from Calcutta report a rise of 2 l>32d in the rupee rate of exchange, which is due to the increased price of silver. It will make the rupee worth Is Bfd.
