AMERICAN DELEGATION. HOSTILE DEMONSTRATION. • "*—— London, May 12. The American delegation to Ireland, accompanied by a priest, attempted to enter the Westport area, which is under military control. Armored cars held the road and stopped the delegation. Subsequently a large crowd marched to the barrier carrying the tricolor and the stars and stripes. The demonstrators were dispersed at the point of the bayonet. Hundreds of disguised men arrived in ten motor-cars and on cycles at the castle of the late General Nugent, at Carlingford Lough, and ransacked the Castle. They secured three shotguns and five rifles. The raiders hoped to find arms belonging to a battalion of the Ulster volunteers, which had already been removed.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc.
