AMERICA CANCELS WOOL CONTRACT.

BALANCE GOBS TO BRITAIN , Christchurch, May 19. Armour and Co., of Australasia, has received a cable message stating that the contract for the balance of the American, purchase of wool from Australasia has been cancelled. Hie United States Government last year contracted to purchase 300;001) bales of wool from Australasia, and of that quantity 100,000 bales were to cooie from New Zealand. Already 30,316 bale 3 have been sent, and the contract for the balance, 63,683 bales, lias been cancelled. When the armistice was signed the United States Government had many contracts with the British Imperial Government, and the latter had many contracts with the United States. Five representatives of each country have met in conference and'have agreed to cancel the contracts on both sides. The Australasian wool contract evidently is one of those cancelled by the United States. The cancellation will not cause any difficulty in disposing of the wool; the balance will go to England instead of the United States.
