We weather was wet, the going heavy, and the attendance poor for the first day of the postponed AJ.O. meeting. Gladful was always prominent in the Hurdles, but never headed the winnerPoitrel was greatly fancied for the Autumn Stakes, and reproduced his spring form when he defeated Desert Gold. Snub ran well for six furlongs, hut then dropped back and finished last. Publican was favorite for the Doncaster- Handicap. Dick Meagher and Sydney were greatly fancied, but neither finished in the leading division, and the race proved a boil over for tine outsider, Hem, who led practically from start to finish. Finmark wag hot favorite for the St. Leger, and justified the expectations. He made his own pace and left the field j standing when Wood brought him away.
