A CRISIS. A PLEDGE REPUDIATED. Received May 18, 7.5 p.m. Warsaw, May 17A grave crisis has arisen in Poland owing to the (Diet refusing to support Padercwski's Paris pledge to cease the offensive east of the Gaiician front. General PilsudsW, commander-in-chief, supported Paderewski's view, the latter also securing Mr. Hoover's assurance that Poland w-dd be fed, financed, and supplied with raw materials. General Pilsudski cancelled the arrangements for an offensive, but the Diet repudiated the Paris negotiations and compelled General Pilsudski to re-issue an order to attack. Thereupon Paderewski resigned. It is probable the public will support Paderpwski when the importance of Mr. Hoover's, negotiations are revealed Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc.
