LEGION OF FRONTIERSMEN.

CONFERENCE OF TARANAKI TROOPS. i A conference of representatives from the various Taranaki troop* of the Legion of Frontiersmen, wan held at the Foresters' Hall, New Plymouth, on Thursday night. There were present: Frontiersmen L. Klee, A. Klee and R. W.i Holley (Pomaiu), Lieut. Golds worthy and H. A, Openshaw (Paritutu), G. H. Mellar, J. W. Laing, W. McKenzie and THos. Luxton (North Taranaki), H. Sampson, C. H. Weston, C. Cohan, F. E. Orbell, A. R. Standish, E. W. Wheatley, H. C. Sampson, and J. H. Street (New Plymouth), Lieut Fraser Jones, T. Rawn, A. L. Hunter, C. Gill and J. Ducker (Egmont), Lieutenant Goldsworthy, who presided, Btated that the object of the meeting was to enable the Taranaki delegates to the Dominion Conference, to be held next month at Hamilton, to determine their course of action in regard to the various matters to be brought before the con- - ference. There were also some other ■ matters which it was desired to discuss. It was decided to apply to the next conference to have the various Taranaki troops formed into a squadron, It was also decided, subject to the approval of the conference, that LieutColonel Weston be appointed commander ot the Taranaki District and Squadron Another provisional appointment was that of Lieutenant Fraser Jones as StaffLieutenant for the Taranaki Squadron. It was decided to forward a remit td the conference urging that application be made for Government recognition of the Legion as a military force. It was pointed out that the War Office had recognised the Legion of Frontiersmen, and that recognition had also bedn given by some Dominion Governments, and disappointment was felt that the New Zealand Government had not given official recognition. Other remits to the conference were agreed upon as follows.—l. That the financial footing of the London office of the! Legion be put upon a better basis. -. that some system of regular trainiMg be arranged and adopted. 3. That small arms and ammunition be placed at the disposal of 4 he Legion by the Government at coat price.
