THE DROUGHT.
EXPERIENCES IN MARLBOROUGH. Uy Telegraph.—Press Association. Blenheim, May 10. Marlborough, in common with the rest of the Dominion, is feeling ,the mark of the severe drought, though nop to the same extent as Hawke's Bay and the north Auckland district. Rain is badly wanted, but lucerne is to some extent stalling off disaster. Water is giving out, and many rivers and creeks are drying up. No mortality of stock is reported, but prices have fallen considerably, and the outlook for winter feed is not promising. It is the worst dry spell known in the district. The Pelorua and Wakamarina rivers are very low, ANXIETY IN HAWKE'S BAY. Hastings, May 10. Replying to a telegram from Mr. D. H. Guthrie that the Raranga's loading at Napier will be expedited, Mr. H. M. Campbell, president of the Farmers' Union, .telegraphed: "More relief must be provided at once else the district is faced with financial calamity. Many thousands of killable stock are still here and unless dealt with soon they and many others will die in large numbers. Sheep are already dying, »nd others are being killed and skinned. Now is the time for you ,to assert your authority and let us have several boats without delay. The position is far too serious to bother with any committee. Act yourself." THE OPOTIKI DISTRICT. Opotiki, Last Night. In spite of the dry weather, the country of the Opotiki district looks fresh and green, partly due to the heavy dewß falling every night. The growth of gTass m the low-lying areas is more luxuriant than usual. Hundreds of cattle have been brought from Poverty Bay during .the rest of the week, having been pup chased by Opotiki farmers at comparatively low prices. In some cases, grazing is being sold to Poverty Bay farmers.
