■MINER'S SUDDEN DEATH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Westport, May 16. James Risk, a well-known Millerton coal-miner was fonnd dead in his but this morning. He complained tliat he was unwell on Tuesday and went iiome and was not missed till work time to-day. DEATH UNDER ANAESTHETIC. Gisborne, May 10. Victor Sorensen, aged 47, who dislocated his elbow at Te Araroa, died in hospital yesterday while under an anaesthetic. SUICIDE AT PALMERSTON NORTH. Palmerston North, Last Night. A returned soldier, Private Arthur Robert Garden, committed suicide by hanging himself with a sheet from the fire escape of the Occidental Hotel tonight. Deceased was seen at 6 o'clock, and appeared to be in his usual state of health. He went upstairs at 8.30, and was found dead. He had thrown himself over the side of the hotel, his neck being broken. Garden was 20 years of age, and returned on February 28, after a year's active service in the Auckland Infantry Regiment. A month later he waß discharged on account of wounds. His mother resides at Ohutu, Taihape, and among the papers on his body was a letter imploring deceased to leave town and come home, as she did not want him to get into bad company. He complained lately of terrible pains in the ,heail. DIED UNDER AN ANAESTHETIC. Gisborne, Last Night. At the inquest on Victor Sorenaon, Who died under an anaesthetic at Cook hospital, a verdict was returned that death was the result of sudden ieart failure during the administratis of an anaesthetic, that all reasonable precautions were taken by the anaesthetic and general staff, and ho blame was attachable to anyone.
