DISTRICT NEWS.

LEPPERTON. (From Our Own Correspondent). A large crowd, thoroughly representative of the district, filled the hall on Tuesday evening to do honor to Lieutenant. C. B. Lepper, M.M. and M.C., Corporal D. McCaul, Riflemen A. 0. Hansen, J. Taylor and Private A. Wright. Mr. F. W. Atkinson, who acted aa spokesman (or the residents, in welcoming the returned men said these men, and such as they, had saved us from audi Prussian arrogance, as was itlU manifested at Versailles In Count Kuntxau's speech. "Bullying Pmsslantsm," as It was so aptly described by M. Clemenceau. The returned men, who were heartily cheered, were responded for by Lieutenant Lepper, who briefly expressed his pleasure at the warm reception accorded them. Light refreshments were then handed round. During the evening dancing was interspersed with a most pleasing selection of musical Items given by Miss Francis, Miss Bellringer, Miss A&her and Messrs. Bellringer, New, and Asher. The dairy factory has commenced running on alternate days. Mr. Taylor Informs me that Dame Cow has held well to her duties this autumn, the factory averaging one to two cheese a day over the corresponding period of last year. Next Saturday a most exciting football battle Is to take place on Mr. Wheatiey's ground between the "Cockles" and the "Young Bipods." For the "Cockles" Messrs. B. Wells (captain), T. Paul, A. Turnbull, A. Sampsoii, P. Sampson, (J. gtimpson,. P. Crowe, H. Wills, S. Jenkins, J. Cloke, A. McGregor, A. Wright, W. Wright, A. Kllpatrick, J. Haines, P. Sampson (emergency) will present a solid front to the "Young Bloods," whose cocksure confidence may receive a rude shock. They are T. Taylor (captain), A. Fulton, J. Copeatake, Beg. Fussel, W. Fusael, N. Wright, K. Klenner, S. Klenner, D. Paul, E. Old, I. Payne, A. McGonnell, '£. Openshaw, N. Sampson, C. Copestake (emergency) . I understand Mr. John Eawber will act in his usual efficient capacity of referee, and Messrs. Joe Hall and P. Lownsborough will assist him .'is line umpires. Representatives of the press will be present to shod the light of publicity on such misguided individuals as may indulge in "offside" or other discreditable tact'es.
