AFGHANISTAN.
AFGHANS HEAVILY PUNISHED. INDEPENDENT TRIBESMEN QUIET. Received May 1(1. 12.5 a.m. Simla, May 13. Reports from Landi Kotal show that the Afghans were heavily punished on the 11 th in,st. We captured six guns. The enemy's losses in killed were about 100, excluding casualties inflicted by aeroplanes. The Darrajat and Bannu borders report all quiet, and the demeanor of all the independent tribes continues satisfactory. Our total casualties t' the 12th inst. were: British killed, 4; wounded, 19. Indians lulled, 7; wounded 22—A.U3. HZ. Cable Assoc. POSITION MUCH EASIER. London, May 14. The situation on the Afghan frontier is well in hand There is no information that the Amir is identified with the acts of aggression.
