OUTBREAK OF DIPTHERIA.

IN A DUNEDIN ORPHANAGE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. An outbreak of diphtheria has occurred in the Glendining Home Orphanage, controlled by the Presbyterian Church. About 80 children axe in the home, and five are suffering from diphtheria. One patient died two days ago. A deputation to the Charitable Aid Board to-day urged that immediate action be taken. Dr. Falconer, medical superintendent at Hie hospital, reported that piactically the whole of the reserve isolation in the Dunedin Hospital was being used for civies which should be accommodated in outside infectious diseases hospital, these including twenty'cases of scariet fever in the fever hospital, and twenty cases of diphtheria in the old nurses' home. He suggested thart th 3 Health Department be requested to act at once. Rev. Cameron, iepresenting the man-, agers, Baid that no isolation in the Glendining Home would be satisfactory unless the 75 per cent, healthy children were taken away. He threatened to take the diphtheria patients to the hospital and leave them on the board's hands if any, delay occurred. Subsequently Dr. Falconer inspected the two buildings, but ag these were unsatisfactory for isolation purposes the Rev. Cameron took the patients to the hospital and left them there.
