The Stratford Returned Soldiers' Association intend holding a ball about the end of May, iu aid of the Nurses Memorial Fund, i'or which money is being collected throughout th», Dominion. The U.S.A. is receiving assistance in their effort from the Ked Cross Society. Commissioner and Mrs. Hoddcr, of the Salvation Army, arrived in Hawera yesterday and are billed for Stratford on Saturday next. They are accompanied by Commandant and Mrs. iScotnuy, of the Eltham Home.
The Stratford people apparently do not intend to be found unprepared when the date of the peace celebrations is announced. An important part of the ti.'ebration* will be the singing, and the Rev. C. W. Howard is inviting the choirs of the Anglican, Presbyterian, and Methodist churches, and also the Salvation Army, to meet for practice at the Parish Hall to-morrow evening , Some of the Chinese in the town appear <■.:> !>e very willing to assume the responsibilities of good citizenship. A reminder is given of the concert and dance to be held in the Town Hall on Thursday evening, organised by tiffs Agricultural and Pastoral Association. There is a cold snap approaching. Don't bother about the breezes or the frost, hut call at C. E.
