THE EGMONT MEETING. (By "Moturoa") Splendid acceptances were received on ■Saturday evening for all events to be decided on the opening Say (Wednesday) of the Egmont Racing Club's winter meeting. The acceptors include horses from Hawke's Bay, Canterbury, Auckland, Wanganui, and other centres, and this week's gathering promises to be a notable success. Special trains will run from New Plymouth and Wanganui, and the attendance should be very large. The track is in splendid order, and a fine steeplechase course has been erected. The big country events will be the star items on the programme, some of the best 'chasers in the Dominion being engaged. The flat races have all filled well, I and racing should be first class each da,?'

Luke Wilson arrived iit Hawera on I Saturday with Yellow and Black and Merry Jack. A large number of visitin" I sportsmen and horses were expected last i night. I Vance is an unlikely starter at Hawera, Mr. H. Johnson's speedy sprinter having contracted a skin ailment that is going the rounds of the horses located in VVanganui. The crack steeplechaser Yellow and Black looks aa fit as a fiddle, and his I party are very sanguine of success in the Egmont Steeples. The Canterbury hurdler Euripos has been taken out of the Tongahoe Hurdles, but may be a runner on the second day. His stablemates, Bore and Post Haste, are in good racing condition, and will he well supnorted in their engagements at the meeting. Harry Rayner- has Signorella going well at Waverley, and the son of Signor and Criicinejla will be a runner at Hawera. I Considerable interest will be taken in the running of Royal Park in the Tongahoe Hurdles. He jumped well at Feikling, and it is reported that several shrewd judges have priced the big son of Sylvia Park recently. One offer of 650 guineas was turned down. Marquetenr is a hot favorite for the McP.ae Memorial Handicap. The Pateaowned horse has been running consist lently lately, and a win would be well deserved.

One of the hardest races to pick tomorrow will he the Tawhiti Handicap. A fine crowd of sprinters will be saddled np for this race, and Volo, Inah, Simonides, Royal Chef, Play Off, and others will be well supported. Post Haste and Hallow appear to he the most discussed candidates in the Telegraph Handicap. Mr. Bert Jury reached New Plymouth last evening with several vnung horses recently purchased in Christchurch by a (patron of R. Barlow's stable The Marlborough R.C. autumn meeting onens to-day, and will be continued on Thursday and concluded on Saturday. Master Moutoa, Imarihbon, Ruddy.
