PAHIATUA AUTUMN SALE. The Wairarapa farmers' Co-operative Association, Ltd, stock department, l'ahiatun, report on their annual autumn cattle fair held on Monday, the sth insU as follows: A good yarding of all classes of cattle came forward, close on 2000 head being penned. Prices were decidedly easy tliroughout in sympathy with late market reports, hut vendors were prepared to meet the drop tina nmrar i»n ue°&MBL<W2.posod of out of the total entry. Buyers were present from Kangitiket, Wanganul, Manawatu, Hawlte's Bay and Wairarapa, the bulk of the purchases being secured by Manawatu buyers. Some splendid lines of Hereford Shorthorn and PA 2-yeav off steers, about 200 in number, sold on'account of Mr. A. C. Herbert, of Pongaroa, at from £lO 4s Cd to £lO 15s. These cattle were considered good buying by those present Other principal sales were: 150 grown bullocks, various lines. £lO 15s, £l2, £H 15s, to £ls; 46 PA. cows with calves at foot £l3 ss; 05 fat cows (lots) £9 10s to £l2; 57 risinz 2-year Hereford and Shorthorn heifers in-calf, £4 12s 6d, £4 15s to £5 17s 6d; store cows Bold at from £3 to £7 ss; 31 2%year Hereford cross heifers, in calf, £7 7s 6d; 60 20-month P.A. heifers to £6 Cs; 87 20-month steers up to £8 8s; mixed sex weaner3 (well bred) sold at from £3 2s 6d to £* ss; oiIdlnary lines at late rates.
AUCKLAND STOCK MARKET. Auckland, May 8. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., report:— At Westfleld store sale on Thursday dairy cattle were penned in average numbers, and sold at late rates. Best dairy cows and heifers £l2 to £l7 10s, others £7 10s to £ll 15s, aged and inferior cows £3 10s to £7 ss. Store cattle penned In smaller numbers than usual were dull of sale. Empty cows and heifers £3 5s to £7, bulls £4 (o £lO 10s, yearling heifers £2 17b 6d to £4 10s, yearling stetrs £3 5s to £5 10a, calves £1 5s to £2 ss. On Tuesday at Papakura we had an average yarding of all classes of stock. Dairy cattle were In keen demand, f.nd sold at high values, Best dairy cows and helfeis, £l3 to £23, others £8 10s to £l2 15s, aged and Inferior cow 3 £4 to £8 ss. Store cattle, owing to dry weather and scarcity of feed, snowed no Improvement on late sales, and weie hard to quit. No grown steers were yarded. Two and a-half to 3-year steers £7 10s to £lO ss, 18-month to . 2-year steers £5 5s to £7 7s 6d, yearling steers I £3 15s to £5 ss, steer calves £1 5s to £2 10s, heifer calves £1 to £2 ss, inferior calves 8s to 19s, yearling heifers £2 7s 6d to £4. heifers, suitable for dairy purposes, £5 10s to £8 10s, empty cows and heifers £4 to £7 10s, bulls £5 to £lO 10s. Beet in smaller number than usual at fully Westfleld quotations. On Wednesday, at Westfleld fat stock market, we had a small entry and, with very few exceptions, interiorly fattened. There remains an unsatisfied demand for good quality cattle. Last week's quotations ruled. Choice ox to £2 10s per 1001b, others £2 6s to £2 9s per 1001b, cow and heifer beef £2 2s to £2 7s per 1001b. Steers sold at from £ll to £2O 12s 6d. Cows and helfere Bold at from £8 to £ls 2s 6d. Sheep were penned in average numbers, and for those of prime quality competition was keen, with prices equal to last week's report. Interiorly fattened sheep wero dull of sale. No extra heavy weights were yarded. Best wethers £1 15s to £1 19s, medium £1 Us 3d to £1 14s 9d, light £1 7s 6d to £1 Us, inferior and small £1 2s 3d to £1 7s 3d,, best ewes £1 9s to £1 13s 9d, medium £1 5s to £1 8s Od, light £1 to £1 4s 9d, inferior and small 14s 6d to 19s Cd. Calves came forward In extra large numbers, the bulk being by rati, over 100 being landed off train. Considering the yarding prices were fair for good quality; poor were neglected. Runners sold from £4 5s to £5 Bs, for a six-months' heifer, the oldest fat calf we yarded. Heavy vealers £3 10s to £4 2s Cd, medium £2 12s Cd to £3 Ss, light £2 to £2 10s, small and fresh dropped 8s to £1 16s. Tiss: A large yarding, with prices a little easier than last week's improved prices. Heavy baconers and choppers £5 2s Od to £7 15s, light baconers £4 to £5 Is, heavy porkers £3 10s to £4 ss, medium £3 to £3 9s, light £2 2s Cd to £2 19s, unfinished £1 Cd to £2, weaners (very small) 7s 6d to 12s Bd. Lambs were penned In average numbers, and for good quality prices were better. Best £1 7s to £1 lis 6(1, medium £1 3s to £1 Cs 9d, light 18s to £1 2s 9d, small and unfinished 7s to 15s.
LOAN AND MERCANTILE REPORT. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited (Hawera branch) report as follows: Our fortnightly sale at Opunake was held on Monday, sth Inst., when a good number of cattle were penned. Prices were as follows: Fat cows £ll, fresh-condltloned £8 4s to £0 2s 6d, stores £5 7a to £0 16s, 20months steers £6, 2 to 2%-year choice ln-calf heifers £8»10s to £9 12s 6d, 20-raonth in-calf heifers, Jersey cross £5 10s to £6, 20-month Shorthorn ln-calf heifers £4 15s, springing heiters £l2 iqs, f.m. ewes, fair condition, 9s 3d, store lambs 9s 2d, mixed sex weaners £2 2s, store pigs £1 10s, slips 10s. At our Manala sale on Tuesday, 6th Inst,, a good muster of cattle came forward and practically the whole yarding was disposed of under the hammer or privately after the sale. Tho following were the prices realised: Freshconditioned cows £8 to £8 15s, stores £5 to £7, boners £3 7a to £4 10s, bulls £6 5s to fill, 20-raonth in-calf heifers £4 5s to £6 12s 6d, mixed weaners £1 16s to £2 ss, weaner heifers £1 10s, lambs 13s 9d to 18s, small store pigs £1 4s, posts Is 6d to Is 9d. At Waverloy on Friday, 9th Inst., we had a small yarding which sold at late rates: Fm. wethers 19s, cull ditto 8s 6d, weaner heifers £2.
At our Palmer road sale on Friday, !)th lust, we had a full yarding of cattle. Prices for good store cows were on a par with recent sales, weaners and young cattle were in poor demand Prices realised were as follows: Good heavy fat cows £l2 to £l2 3s, others £lO Is to £ll 10s, fresh-conditioned and forward cons (good) £9 5s to £!) 17s Od, others £7 9s to £8 7s 6d store cows £4 6s to £0 Bs, boners £3 Is to £4, bulls £7 10s to £9, Jersey weaner heifers (good) £2 18s, weaner heifers £1 lis, mixed weaners £1 Is to £1 Bs.
FARMERS' CO-OP. SOCIETY'S REPORT. At Okaiawa yards on Monday, at our usual fortnightly sale, there was a good yarding of cattle, and prices were better than late rates.
