GENERAL RICHARDSON.
Ms NEW duties; (From Our Own Correspondent). Wellington, May !). The duties that are to be undertaken by General Kichardson, just returned from England, are not yet exactly delined. General Kichardson, it has been announced, is to be General officer in charge of Administration, with status immediately below the Commandant. The normal organisation provides three executive officers below the Commandant, namely the Chief of the General Staff, the Quartermaster-General and the Adju-tani-General. The branches administered by these officers are controlled by various directors. Tbe Commandant, during the. war, has himself held the post of Quartermaster-General. When Surgeon-General Henderon arrived in New Zealand, the Director-General o; iVJ'.'iical Services became an executive of fleer directly responsible to the Commandant instead of to the AdjutantGeneral. The place to be taken by the General Officer in Charge of Administration is between the Commandant of the chief executive officers, and it appears likely that the new office will somewhat reduce the importance of the Adju-tant-General. The point may not be of much public interest, but it is arousing great curiosity in the service. General Richardson has come from England, where he : commanded the New Zealand forec-s in the United Kingdom, with a great reputation as a good organiser, and his band is bound to be felt in the Department.
