Proceedings commenced in the latter end of last year, when an audaeious robbery ;was committed at KSlpatrick's, jewellers, in which trays of diamonds, valued at thousands of pounds, were stolen in broad daylight. Arrests followed, and the jurymen complained of receiving' threats. Later three men were arrested outside the home of Matthew Daly, all heavily armed.
Latterly the fray continued more openly. Albert Lewis was battered with revolver butts and lead piping, and shots were fired through Daly's bedroom window. Frederick Cousins was shot nine times in his head and neck, and Whiting was shot at five times. Seven men were arrested last week who were connected with the vendetta, most of them being bailed out.
