MAN'S SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOUR. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night; In the case of Howard Mattrasa, who was charged with being found on the premises of William Strongman, Mr. F. V. I'razer, S.M., eaid the suggestion was something in the nature of abduction or similar intention. His Worship wa» convinced that defendant was present. He did not think the action of defendant was done in good faith. The proper course would have been to apply to the Supreme Court for a writ of habeas corpus. No man had a right to go to a house and beset it to get a girl Mrey. It was not a case for imprisonment. Defendant was ordered to be bound over to keep the peace for twelve months, in the sum of £2OO and one surety of £2GO. Defendant was also ordered to pay the costs of the proceedings.
PARLIAMENTARY APPOINTMENTS. Wellington, Last Night. Mr. A. F. Lowe, clerk to the House of Representatives, has been appointed Clerk of Parliament, to succeed Mr. Leonard Stowe. Mr. F. W. Furby, one of the private secretaries on the staff of the Prime Minister, is to fill the position of secretary to the Executive Council and to Cabinet until Mr. Massey returns, when a , permanent appointment will be made.
