WAR MEDAL AND CffIHFICATES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, May 8. In connection with the issue of the general war medal the New Zealand Defence Department is preparing rolls of the recipients and making arrangements for the distribution of the medals. It is also proposed to issue to all members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force an illuminated certificate showing each man's record of service. There will be two classes of cottiflcate. one for soldiers, with oversea service, the other for soldiers with not less than twelve months'' home service. It is sot intended to issue certificates of discharge to men who were in training here when the armistice was signed, but to discharge them en bloc by proclamation when the conclusion of pease is officially announced. In the case of intended wise© of New Zealand soldiers the Immigration Department will accept nomination for an assisted passage and give £l3 towards either second or third-class passage. MARRIED SOLDIERS' DEFERRED EAT. Wellington, May 8. It is announced that the Government has decided to pay the full rate of 3s I per day as from the date of embarkation for all married men from the be- ! ginning of the war, payment to be made la tie first week of June by special' warrant sent direct to the payees. In the case of soldiers deceased prior to Dwwriber 31, 1917, payment will be j mode up to the date of decease, or to the daie the separation allowance was paid, if later. It is unnecessary for application to be made in respect of married soldiers undischarged on April 30, 1919, Hint in the case of married soldiers deceased or undischarged prior to that date application will be required before the payments are issued.

AVARICIOUS SA.WMLLERS.
Greymouth, May 8. The Greymouth-Hokitika Sawmillers' Association forwarded the following resolution to the Minister of Internal Affairs: "The association is of opinion that it is necessary to increase production and that the proposed holidays for peace celebrations should be restricted. It is recommended that the subsidy paid for Government celebrations be handed to the Sick and Wounded Soldiers Fund."
RAILWAY SERVANTS' PAY.
Wellington, Last Night. The conference of delegates from branches of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, which has been considering the new terms of pay and conditions offered by th« Department, concluded to-day. It was reported that the following motion had been carried by iS to 8: That this Conference recommends the executive council to accept the proposals offered by the Department as an instalment, and that the executive press for the remainder of the programme as opportunity offers.
