THE VICEROY'S REPORT- - SITUATION MUCH EASIER, Received May 2, 8.5 p.m. Loudon, April 30. The Press Bureau has issued the Viceroy's report to April 28. In the Punjab five rioters were killed and twelv* arrested in connection with the recent riot at Ghuharkama. Mobs burned Sanghirhill and damaged the Kaithal and Gujarat railway stations. Wire-cutting continues in several districts. Otherwise all is quiet. There is also quiet at Amritsar, Lahore, and the north-west frontier. The province of Peshawar reports that the movement h essentially Hindu. At Delhi the position is quiet, but it is reported ihat the Delhi merchants are exercising pressure on the merchants elsewhere by refusing to honor their money remittances, and emissaries from Delhi are stirring up trouble in the Punjab. Brmbay is quiet- Their leaders so far have restrained the Moslems, t despite their strong feeling regarding Turkey and cognate questions. Inflammatory notices, addressed to the troops, have been posted in Meenit. —Aus. N,Z. Cable Assoc.
RIOTERS SENTENCED. Received May 3, 12.30 a.m. London, iMay 2. Sixteen persons implicated in the Punjab riotß have been sentenced to imprisonment and transportation, varying from life sentences to seven months.. In the north-western state the damage to the railways during the riots is estimated at £IOO,OOO. *
