WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) t Waitara, May 1. Very little interest was taken in the Harbor Board election which was held yesterday, the voting at most places being very small. The candidates elected are: A. W. Ogle (300 votes). Jns Hine (273), R. Gribbon (235), H. Spurdle (239), T. Buchanan (221), P. J. Allen (177). There is still one small return to come in—3 votes. The poll for a seat on the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board resulted in a win for Mr (}. Young, of Inglewood, who polled 403 votes, as against Mr. P.. Morgan's 222. Had there been a borough election here the result would probably have been different, as most likely there would have been a much heavier poll. It is a peculiar thing that 54 votes were cast for Mr. G. Young in Waitara, and 3(i votes for Mr. Morgan in higlewoud. One would have expected each town to vote solidly for its own candidate, but one cannot account for the vagaries'of the intelligent voter. Seven soldiers returned to Waitara lest night, and were, met by the Mayor, who, in a short speech, welcomed the returned men back to Waitara. Their names are: Sergeant H. Mackie, Sergeant R. Fulton, Private T. Brough, Private R. Limmcr, Private *W. Heskett, Private C. T. C. Jury, and Private W. R. Free.
