ELTHAM.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Eltham, April 30. 1 Although there was no contest for the council seats, a good deal of interest was centred in the contest for the Mayoralty, the burgesses having to make a selection from the present Mayor (Mr. T. B. Crump) and Cr. G. W. Taylor. Both have bean associated with municipal matters for many years—in fact, Mr. Tayler was the first mayor and Mr. Crump was one of those principally responsible for the formation of the borough. With two candidates possessing such qualifications, many burgesses were in a dilemma as to how to vote. Motor cars were in evidence for bringing voters to the booths. Things ran so smoothly that electors, after recording their votes, quickly removed themselves from the vicinity of the booth. Unlike Stratford, there was a fair amount of talk centred on the harbor loan, and in the afternoon many expressed the opinion that there was a good majority vote cast in favor of the big New Plymouth scheme. The Returning Officer (Mr. R. H. Nevin) was prompt in declaring the results, at the conclusion of which both candidates heartily returned thanks.
