TO-MORROW'S POLL.

ygprns' qualifications. To clear up some misunderstandings which seem to exist in the minds of some people regarding the question of qualifications for voting on the several issues which are being submitted in connection with the municipal elections to-morrow, we have official intimation from the respective returning officers to the following effect:— MUNICIPAL CANDIDATES. For the offices of mayor, councillors, and borough representatives on the Hospital Board and the Harbor Board, both ratepayers and residents are eligible to vote, provided, of course, their names appear on the rolls. UNIMPROVED RATING POLL. On the proposal to rate on the unimproved land values in New Plymouth, only ratepayers are eligible to vote. The qualification is held, however, by both husband and wife—that is, if the property is in the husband's name the wife has the right to vdte, and vice versa, provided, in every case, that both have enrolled. HARBOR IMPROVEMENT LOAN. The qualification for voting on the proposal to raise a loan for the harbor extension works, is somewhat different from the other issues, and rests on the ownership of property entirely. Husband and wife do not vote, in each other's right. Votes are allowed according to the value of the property held. All owners of property up to £IOOO in value are entitled to one vote, from £lOOl to £2OOO two votes, and £2OOI and over three votes. In connection with the Harbor Loan Poll it is unlikely the result will be made known to-morrow night. Many of the polling booths are in remote districts, from which it is impossible to receive any communication after the hour of closing the poll, and as there is a penalty clause in the Act for divulging any information regarding the state of the poll until the returning offi-1 cer -makes his final declaration, it isj not expected there will be any returns | available to-morrow night.
