WAITARA.

(From Our Own Correspondent). Saturday 2<J. Four men returned from the front last night, Private T. Taylor, Sergt. Bovvers, Privates Terrill and Murray. Three of them seemed to be fairly wtll, but Sergeant Bowers has had a very rough time, being wounded four times, having lost an eye, the use of one arm and some fingers'froin the other hand. The mayor welcomed them on the station with a few very appropriate words, expressing the pleasure with which he and all of their friends welcomed them home after the trying experiences they had been through. Religious services were held on Friday morning in all the churches, and yesterday afternoon the school children, cadets and territorials formed up at Rennie's corner and marched round the square ' with the band at. their head before going into the Theatre Royal to hold a short service, Th; Rev. Gavin gave a short address, referring to the hardships our boys had been through •and to the thorough way in which they had done their duty. The benediction brought the service to a close. The football match between the returned troopers and the other team from the town resulted in a win for the rest of the town after a hard fought struggle, in which the Diggers had hard luck in Hot scoring another try at least. The game ended with the scores: Rest of the town (I, Diggers 3. At a meeting of the Seaside Improvement Society it was decided to hold a social on May 15, at which the Tabor Shield, the cup and buttons for the relay race and the cup and medals for .the tug-of-war will be presented. Three .events were won by the Waitara team, the Waitara school boys and the Motonui school boys respectively.
