ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
FATAL LIFT ACCIDENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckiand, April 2(1. Walter Katies who was recently injured in a lift accident, died iii the hospital last night. A MOTORING ACCIDENT. . Opotiki, April 26. A. serious motoring accident occurred at two o'clock this morning on the Kikuma road in the vicinity of the borough. A car containing fm> wellknown residents, driven by C. Gordon, took a wrong turning and capsized over a bank. "Gordon was rendered unconscious. Tabb had one ear almost torn off. R. W. Wise had his left am broken near the shoulder. B. Bridger had several ribs broken C. W- Cooke sustained minor injuries. The men were taken to the hospital and attended to by Dr. Forbes. According to latest advices Gordon is still unconscious. DEATH UNDER ANAESTHETIC. Pannevirke, April 26. The inquest on the body of John Gordon Forbes, who died some days ago while under an anaesthetic, undergoing extraction of teeth, concluded to-day. The jurv's verdict was that death was due to syncope and that no Maine was attachable to anyone. A CHILD KILLED. Christchurch, April 26. A fatal accident occurred about midday. A trap containing a man named Rathgen, his wife, and child (Myrtle) was being driven along Cashel Street when the" horse slipped and fell, all the occupants being thrown out. The child fell close to the horse, and was seriously injured through being rolled on, and died shortly after being taken to the hospital. The mother was cut about the head, but the father was uninjured. The father is a farmer at Taitatea. DEATH FROM A FALL. A married man named John Riddall, while sitting on the rail of the balcony at the Carlton Hotel, Willis Street, on Saturday, overbalanced and fell into the street, dying shortly afterwards.
