Lieut. Burnham Horner, M.C., of Patea, will reach New Zealand in June.

Mr. and Airs. Stanley Shaw have returned to New Plymouth, after an enjoyable holiday at like Wakatipu, The new vicar of Inglewood (Rev. R. J. Stanton) is to take up his duties in June.

Lieut, and Mrs. A. R. Standish, also Capt. Colin Gilray and Mrs. Gilray are expected to reach New Plymouth tonight. ' The friends of Mr. James Hawkins will be pleased to hear that he is much improved in health, having been able to leave the private hospital some few days ago. Sgt. Trehey, of the New Plymouth police, who was taken to the hospital at the time of the influenza epidemic, has now recovered sufficiently to return to his home.

Miss Sophia Haddon, daughter of the Rev. T. R. Haddon, of Normanby, was married to Mr. Thomas Robinson at Manaia on April 13, Rev. N. H. Papakura, of Opunake, cousin of the bride, performing the ceremony. At Knox Church, Inglewood, on Monday, Miss Mary Ann Allen, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. Allen, was married to Mr. James Thompson, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Thompson, of Hawera.

A well known Auckland solicitor, Mr. Frederick Ernest Shera, died on Wednesday, after a short illness. Mr. Shora had been connected with the legal practice of the Hon. J. A. Tole, K.C., for many years. As ft young man he studied medicine in Dublin, but, coming to New Zealand, he entered the legal profession. The death is announced of Dr. George Alfred Lefroy, Bishop of Calcutta and Metropolitan of India. A son of the Dean of Dromore, he Bpent the whole of his ministerial life in India, having joined the Cambridge Mission in Delhi in 1879. Some time ago he visited the British troops in Mesopotamia. Lieut. McKenna, of Patea, arrived home on Tuesday. Lieut.,, McKenna, who was one of the first to volunteer, left with the Main Body, landing at Gallipoli with the Wellington Regiment, under the late Colonel Malone, and remaining on the peninsula until the evacuation. Lieut. McKenna afterwards proceeded to the Western front, where he was twice wounded.

Surgeon-General Henderson, who leaves for Sydney by the Moeraki next Monday, em route to England, was presented yesterday by the Defence Headquarters staffs and medical services, civilian medical practitioners, and civilians with a number of greenstone and other articles. Dr. Elliott, in making the presentation, vaiced the genuine regret of the donors at General Henderson's departure, and eulogised his work. Sir James Allen and General Robin also paid tributes.
