Sutclirl'e and Jas. Wilson. APPEARANCE OF CATTLE TICK. Taihape, April 24. A very large meeting of farmers was held at Taihape this morning, and, after a lengthy discussion it was unanimously resolved: That, this meeting views with considerable alartn the reported appearance of cattle tick in the Auckland province spreading over a considerable area, thus demonstrating the tick cannot exist south of the 24th parallel of latitude; that the Government be requested to take such steps as will confine the pest to the area already affected and eventually effect its eradication At the present time there is nothing to prevent tiek4nfested cattle from being trucked and driven for tale to disricts that are perfectly clean, and, tf stringent measures are hot promptly taken, the pest will sobn be a prevalent calamity through the length and breaaOi of the land. W.C.T.U. CONVENTION. Napier, April 24. The annual convention of the Women's Christian. Temperance Union opened in Napier to-day. Last night the convention was welcomed by the local union. The Mayor presided and extended a weh come oh behalf of the aitizens. At this morning's session the secretary's report showed there we,re now 105 branches.
