FOOTBALL.
PROPOSED ALTERATION OF RULES.
There was an attendance of almost forty at the meeting which was held in the Soldiers' Club last night to discuss the formation of football clubs for the ensuing season. J({r. J. McLeod was voted to the chair.
Before holding the club meetings the proposed alterations to the rules, which are to be submitted to the annual meeting of delegates at Stratford on Thursday, were discussed 5 . The proposals carlied were as follows:
Absolute free kicks and kicks at goal from penalties and tries: All such kicks to be absolutely free from charge. Any player to be allowed to place or kick the balV The placer and kicker need not necessarily be the same player. Referee to put the ball in scrummage. The referee is to put the ball in scrum on all occasions. . Modification of the law governing kicking into touch otherwise than from a kick-off or drop-out already provided for: If the ball drops directly into touch from a kick, except in the case of a penalty kick, and except the kicker be within his own twenty-five, it shall be brought hack, and a line-out formed from touch at a point opposite where the player was at the time he kicked the ball. Advantage rule to apply to line-out play: This, in effect, will mean (1) if the player throws the ball out so as not to alight at right angles to the touchline, or (2) if the ball is knocked on and the opposite side gains the advantage, in either case, from immediate succeeding play, the game goes on. Rules as to professionalism: Notice of motion has been given to the N.Z.R.U. annual meeting as follows: "That 'Northern Union players who have been on active service or who have never received monetary payment for playing football, shall be eligible for reinstatement, but no player over the age of 18 years last birthday who takes part in the Northern Union game subsequent to the . . . shall be eligible for reinstatement." TUKAPA CLUB. Of those present the majority were Tukapa adherents. Mr. B. Hurley was elected secretary. Other officers elected were: President, Dr. Fookes; vjce-presidents, Messrs C. Gray, Dr. E. A. Walker, J. McLeod, J. Scanlon, and A. R. Standish; treasurer, C. Webster; committee, Geo. Loveridge, L. B. Stohr, L. Whittaker, R. Penniall, H. Oliver. R. Hooker, and J. Prior; delegates to T.R. Union, J. McLeod and B. Hurley; auditor, V. Duff. It was resolved to enter a senior and junior team in the competition. The subscription was fixed at "5s for playing members and 10s for honorary members. The question of colors was discussed, and it was resolved that if the club colors could not be obtained the club will play with a white band on a dark blue jersey. It was resolved to play on Western Park ground. The opening day was fixed for Thursday,' May 1. > - WW/®* The chairman made an appeal to old footballers and those who did not intend to play to attend the first meeting of the Referees' Association. Mr. 0. West, of the Referees' Association, also appealed for recruits. STAR FOOTBALL CLUB. Mr. A. Pearce was voted to the chair. Officers were elected as follows: Patron, E. Dockrill; president, E. Whittle; vice-presidents, Messrs S. J. Smith, S. G. Smith, M.P., J. Arthur, J. Avery, and Jaß. Clarke; secretary and treasurer, J. Clark; committee, A. L. Humphries, W. Crockett, E. Crocker, R. Johnston, P. Simms, B. Sutton, C. Saddler, C. Brown, E. Stanley, Lieut. G. Bertrand, A. Pearce; auditor, A. L. Humphries; delegates to union, A. L. Humphries and Jas. Clarke. It was resolved to hold a further meeting on Wednesday, April 30.
