EAST ROAD SHEEP DOG CLUB.

ELEVENTH ANNUAL TRIALS.

The eleventh annual meeting of the v . East Road Dog Trial Club opened in the grounds of Mr. C. o"Neil at Te Wera da Wednesday under ideal weather conditions, when work of a very high order was witnessed by a large number of enthusiasts, both ladies and gentlemen. So close were the first half dozen runs that the judge (Mr. N. Biair) had to withhold his decision, which wag not given till late in the evening. The second day's sport was carried through in fair weather, some fine rims eventuating, especially in classes 2 and 3, the judge remarking that a lot of the work was exceptionally good and the class of dogs also very good, some of the maiden dogs being quite fit for i-hanipionship work when they got properly into harness. The club is certainly to be congratulated upon the carrying through of its annual'fbtture, and the ' hope was freely expressed that it would" carry on and extend what is undoubtedly a popular and growing pastime, Which, of course, has the merit of increasing the efficiency of a very necessary adjunct to our largest primary industry. Proof of this is to be found on many of our large sheep farms, where the quality of the work done by the dogs is very mark- • ed, and much of it is attributable to dog trial work. The committee and the secretary (Mr. B. Boyle) had made complete arrange* ments, which ensured the success of the gathering, and they were indefatigable in their efforts to ensure the comfort of patrons. The ladies of the district also deserve a high meed of praise for the excellence of the afternoon tea arrange* ments. The results were as follow:—. Heading, bring back and hold in ring.
