ANNUAL MEETING.
The annual meeting of the Taranaki Acclimatisation Society was' held last evening, about twenty five anglers and gunmen being present. Mr G. G. Grovor (president) occupied the chair. The annual report and balance sheet (already published) was read and adopted. In addition to the £ll2 3s balance at the bank the society has assets (fish cans and hatching boxes) valued at £26 10s, making a total balance of £l3B 13s. In moving the adoption of the report the president outlined the work of the society during the past year. No fish had been released, as the, society's hatcheries remained closed. However, several brace of pheasants had been secured and liberated in various parts of the district; The council had had under consideration a. proposal for the amalgamation of the Hawera, Stratford and New Plymouth societies. In other parts of the Dominion the acclimatisation societies covered much larger areas than those in Taranaki, and it was thought that the three societies merged into one could be run on very much more economical lines, and thus give to both anglers and gunmen more of the license money for expenditure on fish and birds. ' He had ap'proached the Hawera and Stratford societies with a view to amalgamation, and both these societies bad agreed to meet delegates from the Taranaki society to discuss the proposal. After a good deal of discussion "It was decided that the proposed amalgamation be not entertained.
The election of officers resulted: President, Mr. G. G. Grover (re-elected); vicepresidents, Messrs. Newman and W. B. Fussell; council, Messrs. C. M. Hill, C. N. Johnson, L. B. Webster, L. Rae, Willis and Douch; secretary and treasurer, Mr. Val. Duff: auditor, Mr. T. J. Shaw. 'The late secretary, Mr. 0. N. Firth, was voted an honorarium of £5 5s for his past year's services. It was resolved that members of the council be appointed honorary rangci". and that the Commissioner of" Polie° be written to asking that instructions be issued to_the police in the district to do all in their power to prevent illicit shooting and fishing, and that any fines arising from convictions that may be obtained be handed to Ue eonstable'laying the charge.
