Captain C. B. E. Douglas, RJB. (for, merly of New Plymouth) has been appointed Acting-Major.
Mr C. E. Bellringer has received advice that his son, Private L. h. Bellringer, retunh home by the mail train to-night.
Police Superintendent Keilly, of Wellington, is about to retire on superannuation and take up his residence in Auckland.
As an expression of appreciation of the work done in the Hawera parish of St. Mary's, the parishioners have voted a sum of £SO to the Rev. C. H. Grant Cowen.
A Press telegram from Auckland reports the death of Mr. W. J. Speight, diocesan secretary, aged 74. The late Mr. Speight was M.P. for Auckland East in 187 H.
Mr. R. W. D. Robertson, of New Plymouth, has been appointed Dominion organiser of the Welfare League, and leaves for Wellington to-morrow to take up his duties.
Mr W. T. Jennings, MJ., left yesterday for Taumarunui for the purpose of taking part in the Ansae commemorative services. On Saturday he will be with the Hon. Mr. Mac Donald to open i new post office at Waitomo.
At the Hawera Methodist Church on Tuesday the wedding was celebrated of Mr Win. Morley Egglestone, "eldest son of Mr and Mrs Joseph Kgglestone, Dunedin, to Miss Elsie Vera Duuon, second daughter of Mr and Mrs E. Dixon, Hawera.
Mr Horace G. Hunt, Mus. Bac. son of M. R. Leslie Hunt, of Mount Eden, Auckland, has cabled that he has arrived in London. Mr Horace G. Hunt was in Berlin when war was declared, and was interned in the civilian camp at Ruhleben for over four years.
A Dunedin" message says that tne death is anounced at Bournemouth, England, of Mr George Gray Russell, aged flO, formerly of the firm of Ru»b»11, Ritchie and Co., of Dunedin, which business was taken over in 1878 by the National Mortgage and Agencv Co. He cook a keen Interest in public affairs, especially in educational matters.
Captain and Brevet Lieut.-Colonel (temporary Brigadier-General) B. C lireyborg, V.C., D.5.0., Royal West Surrey Regiment (Wellington), has been transferred from that regiment to the Grenadier Guards, with seniority from September, 1017. He is to retain his temporary higher rank and seniority while holding his present appointment.
Acting-Captain H. Sten. Hurle has reverted to his substantive rank of lieutenant in the Special Reserve, and has been retained for the Army of Occupation in Germany. He left this week with the 53rd Bn. Middlesex 'Regiment, and expects to be on the Rhine until at least February of next vear.
