General Koltchak captured Stillitamak, rendering the Bolshevik position critical on the Orinburg front, an-' cut' ting off the entire Bolshevik rear where possible. The Red Guards are precipitately retreating, while the Chinese, Magyar and Lettish mercenaries, whose retreat is blocked are standing desperately.- The Soviet Coinmissionafies deserted the troops and are rushing to safety beyond the Volga while the ice holds. General Koltehak's rapid advance was possible owing to the plentitude of reserves aid supplies. The Bolsheviks lost hundreds of guns, and 10,000 prisoners, while the number killed is greater. the advance has h&w reached 100 milts from Volga. It resulted In a total defeat of the Bolshevists, masy of whom Were killed and several hundred wounded.-*Reutet GERMAN PLOT AT LIBAU. SAID TO BE COLLAPSING. London, April 18. The Copenhagen correspondent of the Daily Telegraph states that the Lettish Legation has been informed of a serious and long-prepared German plot at Libau. The German occupation troops penetrated the barracks, greatly outnumbering the Lettish garrison, whom they disarmed, and also killed and wounded some Lettish troops. The Premier, M. Ulmann, learning of the attack, went to Von der Goltt, tie German commander, who pretended to be greatly surprised. The Germans .subsequently arrested the Lettish Home Secretary, M. Walther, and removed all the Lettish guards outside the Government buildings. German guards occupied aU the positions in the town and German civilians spread a rumor that the Lettish troops had revolted. This the Lettish Government characterised as an infamous lie. BOLSHEVIKS LOSE VILNA. Washington, April 22. a. Russian wireless message states that the Bolsheviks have lost Vilna. BRITISH WARSHIPS APPEAR AT LIBAU. London, April 22. The Daily Telegraph's correspondent lays that two MaUteuffels, Manager and Zimmerman, left Libau for Riga to start a similar rebellion there and at Reval. The Lettish Government learns that a lawyer is so-operating with the Germans and has drawn up a constitution for a new Baltic State under German rule. A subsequent telegram says that the Germans at libau demanded one-third of the offices in the new Lettish Ministry, but the existing Lettish Government refused all agreements with the Germans. The latter profited by the absence "of the British Military Mission which had temporarily left Libau fov Kovno. The mission has now returnofl and British warships are anchored /at Libau. British north 'Russia official: Russian troops under General Magnard, successfully attacked Vojmosalmi, at the southeastern end of Lake Vigozero, on the 17th.
