Mr. W. N. Ewing, of New Plymouth, who has been indisposed for some time past, is making steady progress towards recovery. Mr Ernie Sole, New Plymouth, who has been an inmate of the New Plymouth hospital for the past two weeks, and underwent a s-erious, operation on Tuesday, is making satisfactory progress. * . '' Mr. Thomas Farrah, 79, one of Wanganui's oldest settlers, died on Monday. He came to the town over half a century ago. In the early days he was accountant for Mr. Lewis, a Wanganui merchant, and for a short period was private secretary to Sir Julius Vogel. Dr. Hansen, principal of Southland Technical High School, was last night unanimously appointed director of the Christchurch Technical College, in succession to Mr. J. 11. Howell, who goes to the Wellington 'Technical College.— Press AssocDr. Walker, who has been seriously ill •in the New Plymouth hospital for some weeks past, is now making good progress, and waR able to be moved to his home yesterday. Word was received yesterday forenoon that Mr. A. Hagenson, of Fitzroy, had met with a fatal aecident while proceeding to his 'son's farm at Kotare. No details were available last night. A deputation waited on Mr. W. E. Haselden yesterday to urge him to stand for the Hawera mayoralty, but he stated that he had told Mr. Dixon that if he stood he (Mr. Haselden) would not stand against him. Thereupon, Mr. Goodwin, who headed the deputation, said it was now fairly certain that Mr. Dixon would I be returned. j
