For some time past it has been felt that the conveniences lor dealing with stock at the railway yards here were in need of considerable improvement. Recently a public meeting was called to consider the question, Mr. A. Laurence being in the chair. During the discussion that followed it was pointed out that as there were no facilities for railing horses or cattle, farmers have to ship same at Stratford or Inglewood. This entailed a considerable loss of time, wihlst regarding the sheep pens these were too small to accommodate all penned at times, whilst at least another rail was required to prevent sheep escaping by jumping over the top. Other matters were also touched upon, and efforts will be made to get the responsible officers or Ministers to vißit Tariki in the near future. Yesterday was a big day here for the children, the annual picnic of children attending the Church of England Sunday Sciiool being held in Mr. A. Laurence's paddock. All thoroughly enjoyed the outing, racing for the children being conducted throughout the day. There was also a large attendance of adults, including the vicar of Inglewood, Rev. E, Haivie. There was a record attendance at the railway station on Friday evening to welcome home W. Laurence, E. James, D. Kendrick, R. Thompson, and G. Kettlewell. All the soldiers were found to be looking well, and were received with rousing cheers by the settlers, neaded by Mr. A. Laurence chairman of. the Patriotic Committee. E. J. Kibby and H. Bridgeman are expected back this wee!;, and arrangements are now being completed to give all the soldiers mentioned above a social evening in honor of their safe return and in recognition of their services to the Empire.
