In tiie course of Ins annual report to the Borough Council the town clerk (Mr- F. T. "Bellringer) makes the following reference to the proposed harbor improvement scheme at New Plymouth: The Harbor Board is to be congratulated upon the very fine scheme submitted for the development of the harbor. This matter, not being a municipal one, may possibly not come within the scope of this report. However, it has such an important bearing' upon the future prosperity of the town that a reference thereto can hardly be avoided. The construction of a satisfactory harbor affects everyone in the. whole district directly or indirectly. On the 30th Inst, the residents of the district will be called upon to decide whether the port Is to eventually become one of the largest in the Dominion or to remain a back number. A great producing centre like Taranaki must have a port where it can ship its produce cheaply direct to the consumer and it is to be sincerely hoped that the wise and progressive proposals of the Board will receive the endorsement of the ratepayers.
