EVERYBODY'S. NORMA TALMADGE IN "BY RIGHT OF PURCHASE" TO-NIGHT. "By Right of Purchase," the piece de resistance on the current programme at Everybody's to-night comes here with a big reputation. The film is a Select production, and well up to that company's high standard. In this drama Miss Talmadge is seen as a butterfly of New York Society, who seeks to make an advantageous marriage for financial reasons. She is loved by Chadwick Himes, whose wealth and standing are firmly established, but she makes no secret of her infatuation for Dick Derwent, a handsome young ne'er-do-well. Nevertheless, Himes asks Margot to marry him and spend three years as his wife in name only, promising to release her at the end of that time if she does not then really love him, and settle a large income upon her. Margot accepts the contract and marries him upon theße terms. After their marriage Margot gradually comes to appreciate her husband's true worth, and realises Dick's worthlessness in comparison. But while her love for Himes grows deeper, Chadwick, unknowing of her change of heart, adheres more and more strictly to the terms of their contract and represses any show of emotion toward her, and Margot, indiscreetly, gets money from her husband to finance Dick's ventures in Wall Street. This leads up to many interesting episodes, through which Margot finds her husband's true value, and an interesting sequel follows.
