HOUSEHOLDERS' MEETINGS.

STRATFORD. Mr. R. Masters, chairman of the Taranaki Kducation Board, presided at the meeting of householders on Monday evening. In moving the annual report, Mr. J. W. Boon, chairman of the committee, stated that hi the examinations Masters G. Arms and J. Yeates had secured Taranaki University Scholarships, Yeates also coming second in the Public Service Entrance. Mention was made of Mr. Masters' visit to Wellington on behalf of the school, and the fact that £7500 had been placed on the estimates for a new Technical High School, but the ultimate cost would probably be £IO,OOO. Something should be dene,'as the present school was overcrowded. Finances showed that expenditure had been very heavy, but the committee finished up the year with a small credit balance.

Twelve nominations were received for the committee of nine, and a ballot resulted in the return of Mr. J. W. Boon, Rev R. B. Tinsley, W. Pinkey, G. Smart, D. M. Clark, D. McMillar, C. Martin, E. G. Foster, anil F. J. McDonald

No action was taken in regard to a hostel for pupils, although it was admitted that this was very necessary. It was suggested that some boardinghouses might cater solely for the boys or girls.

Mr. Pinkey inquired if the medical inspection of children could be arranged more regularly. Mr. Masters, replying, stated this was a departmental matter. It was deplorable to notice the condition of many children. It was costing the country the munificent sum of 3d per child each year for medical attention in schools.

Votes of thanks were passed to the headmaster (Mr. Tyrer) and staff and the outgoing committee. The erratic running of the train leaving Stratford at 355 p.m. was brought up by the headmaster. He pointed out that there were 45 scholars from Ingiewood and several from Waitara and other places The trair. was supposed to cross the last train from New Plymouth at Inglewood, but at times was held up at 'i'ariki, whore the children had to wait about for 35 minutes or so, which was not desirable. After a little discussion it was resolved to write to the district traffic manager asking if some arrangement could not be made to speed up the train, also to ask the Chamber of Commerce to assist in the matter. STANLEY ROAD. Thirty were present at the meeting, and the election resulted in the return of Messrs P. H. Wellington (chairmanV F MeCracken, A. J. Chard, ,1 Phillips and T. E. Bell. Finances showed the late committee to have had a very good yeav, and thanks were extended to them and the teachers on the work of the school. TARIKI. There was a good attendance Mr. ,T. Thicker (chairman) presiding. The election resulted a? follows: Messrs J. Thicker, W. Frewin, H. Glen, A. E. Cowley, and D. Jones. Mrs. Jamieson was re-elected secretary and Mr. Hucker chairman. 'The balance-sheet showed a credit of £l3. i MANGATOKI. Mr. D. L. Astbury was re-cleetpfl chairman at Monday's meetins, and hi? comrades are Messrs E. Wright, J P Mavx A. L. Salzberger, and C Nicholson. A very satisfactory credit of £32 w:i. shown. OKAIAWA. . At Monday's meeting Mrs. Chiverwas elected, also Messrs A. Lees, KielTToulahan, Eraser, and Tiplady. Tin committee had a credit of £7 lis 3d at the close of the financial year. HAWERA. A good deal of interest was taken in the animal meeting. Twelve nominations were received and the successful candidates were Messrs R. S. Sago (chairman last year), F. G. Magmissan, | T. C. Hobbs, C,'. Canning, A. Death, A. Rcid, J. W. Black, W. Gilbert, and F P, Lea. The year was a heavy one in expenditure, the credit balance being £7 15s sd. NORMANBY.
