The usual meeting was held last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr. .7. W. McMillan), Crs. W. McDonald, C. B. Walsh, S. B. 'Hunter, T. Lawson, C Jackson, J. H. Thompson, R. H. Cameron, D. J. Malone, and J. Masters. A request by the Chamlver of Commerce to have commercial literature available for the public in the library was agreed to.

The Mayor and Messrs Hunter and Cameron. were elected a sub-committee to inquire into Mr. T. Sullivan's request that a subdivisional fence between his property and the Model Dairy Farm he shifted back.

Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P-, is to be nominated as the council's representative on ths New Plymouth Harbor Board.

An application for transfer of Mrs. Collinson's lease to Mrs. Cecilia Witt and Mr. W. W. Witt was approved. The council declined a request for £2O from the contractors for extras incurred in building the Cordelia Street bridge. The work was delayed through the epidemic.

Mr. T. D Sullivan, borough engineer, in his report stated that 320 yards of 2iin., 814 yards of y 2 in. tar macadam, and 12 yards of y 4 in. metal were put down in Broadway during the mouth Had it not been for the breakdown in the plant early in the month the work in the Broadway contract would have been completed by this time. Mr. Hollands, electrical engineer, stated that owing to the dry spell from March IS to April 1 the hydro-station had been shut down from 7.30 a.m. till 11.30 p.m., and that meant heavy work for the Diesel engine. Spares ordered last May had not arrived and were badly needed. Complaint was made that a length of brass curtain pole was thrown over the transmission line, which caused the fuses to blow, whilst several street lichts were broken. The report was received, and the recommendation of the Lighting Committee to offer a reward of £1 for information leading to a detection was adopted.

During the month the stock slaughtered included 03 cows, 20 heifers, 10 oxen 6 calves. 228 sheep, 81 lambs, end 1 pig. Fees collected totalled £53 9s. Miss Laverty, librarian, reported that 1050 books were issued since last report, 1027 returned, odd hooks 141, returned 152. Fifteen new books were Issued, and subscriptions received amounted to £8 179. Messrs McMillan and Frederic were accorded a vote of thanks foi donating n 400-gallon tank and making all connections to snme for use in the cemetsrv fre? of charge.

The sexton's application for a new map of the cemetery was granted, and in future he is 1 to furnish a monthly report.

A grant of €SO was made towards the peace celebrations. The engineer will decorate the municipal buildings, whilst the tradespeople ar» banding together to meet the cost of shop illuminations, fireworks, flags, etc GEVERAL.' Tradespeople have resolved to close their premises from Thursday till Tuesday morning. Thursday will be the lata night of the week, the shops remaining open till 0 p.m. Or. Easte.r Monday night the attraction here will be the Soldiers' night in the Town Hall, and there is every reason to unticipate extensive patronage from dancers and others. Several favorite performers will assist in the concert items, whilst the dance music, supper arrangements, and the floor will be ail that is necessary tc- ensure an enjoyable evening. Mac Donald (Minister of Agriculture) inspected the Stratford Model Farm during his visit at the week-end. He expressed his pleasure and satisfaction at the progress made and of the prospects and possibilities of the work heing carried on. He commented on the advantages of a well-ordered and well-managed farm, which was always a pleasure to the occi.pier, and rendered farming operations convenient and satisfactory. He strongly approved of the quantity and quality of the fodder crops, and suggested that a great increase of production is possible by more liberal and suitable feeding of stock. Specimens of work of pupils of the Stratford School were shown to him. He was very pleased with these and appreciated the advantages of the practical instruction which these pupils receive during their visits to the farm.

Although shipping arrai) gem cuts are far from being regular or satisfactory, Mr. C. E. James has been fortunate in landing some splendid sets of English china tea-sets, ranging in price from £1 ISs to £2 2s 6d (21 pieces). Later on, dinner and other sets are expected. Those in need of tea-sets would be well advised to call and see Mr. James' shipment, which are unique in design and the prices are unapproachable. Still a good range of ladies' hand-bags to clear.—Advt.
