CONFERENCE ON INDUSTRY.
r A 'WISE SUGGESTION. By Telegraph. —Press Association. Christchureh, April 14. Mr. H. Hunter, secretary of the Federation of Labor, has received a communication from the National Executive in Auckland instructing him to bring before the Government the following motion, passed by the executive: "That this body protests against the proposed Arbitration Court to fix the basic wages of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers, as indicated by the president in Dunedin, and is of opinion that the principle should not be accepted until the views of Labor have been ascertained at a national conference, at which the proposal would be discussed. We think the time opportune for a National Industrial Conference, representative of employers and workers, at which the whole position of industry in New Zealand niay be discussed and proposals formulated on important matters, including wages, upon which up to the present, the opinions of those engaged in industry have not been ascertained; that the Government be asked to call this conference as soon as possible"
