Our Stratford correspondent states that whilst working on the track yesterday morning Mr. A. J. Davey'a wellknown racing mare, Gipsy Gem (St. Paul, Romala), fell and broke a hind leg. The animal is now under veterinary examination, and on his decision will rest whether the animal will be saved for stud purposes or destroyed. It will be remembered that Gipsy Gem won the Opunake Cup at the last meeting, and altogether has saluted the judge as winner on five occasions.

At the annual meeting of the EgmontWangantii Hunt Club the following officers were elected: Patron, M. 0. Symes; president, Mr. J- Kennedy; vice-presi-dents, Messn J. Biggie and J. Crocker; master, Mr. J. E. Palmer; deputy masters, Messrs R. Crocker and G. Lupton; committee, Messrs 0. H. Washer, H. Brewer, A. Mitchell, J- O'Donnell, D. Noake, T.' W. Lonsdale, E. P. Symes, and S. Mcßae; hon. auditor, Mr. J. C. Gray; hon. treasurer; Mr. J. E. Palmer; hon. secretary, Mr. W. Macfarlane. It was decided that the club hold ft race mepting at Waverley on Wednesday, August 27. Mr. Palmer said that the term was up for the huntsman- As they all knew, Mr. E. P. Symes had come forward and offered to took after the hounds and hunt them at a salary of £l5O per annum. That was for five hunts, but they had held ten hunts last season, and a man could not keep* two horses fit (and look after the hounds for that amount.
