Sir Joseph Mac Lay, replying to Sir Joseph Ward's representations for the transfer of River Plate steamers to New Zealand, says that the Ministry of Shipping, the Board of Trade, and the Ministry of Food discussed the matter fully and decided that it was impracticable at the present time, owing to the meat situation in Britain and Europe.—Aus.
