TWO STEAMERS WITH CASES. NIAGARA TO BE BERTHED, j By Telegraph.—Pres3 Association. Wellington, April 12, Four seamen from the Koromiko and one from the Tarawera have been removed, to Quail Island, where a ward is being furnished to accommodate patients suffering from a mild form of influenza. In the meantime both vessels are quarantined for an additional 48 hours. Work on the Riverina is still held up. The steward, whose condition the watersiders considered suspicious, is still under observation in the hospital, and the departure of the steamer for Sydney has been postponed until Tuesday. Auckland, April 12. The Niagara will be released from quarantine and berthed at the Auckland wharf at 6 p.m. on Monday. Through passengers not on the sick list will be landed In the city on {Monday morning.

The case on the Rakanoa has not developed into influenza, and the vessel will be berthed to-day.

The Port Stephen leaves for Gisborne at noon. Her chief officer, who is at 1 ! Motuihi, is at convalescent. | NIAGARA CASES SATISFACTORY. ' Auckland, Last Night. The position in regard to. the influenza cases from the Niagara continues satisfactory. No fresh cases have, so far, been reported over the week-end, and no'deaths have occurred.

EPIDEMIC INCREASING IN AUSTRALIA. Received April 13, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, April 13. Influenza continues to increase its hold in the city and country. There were 31 and 27 deaths respectively for the last two days in the city, while in Melbourne the disease retains a strong hold, though the death rate is lower than at the first visitation. In Adelaide there is a steady increase in the number of patients, and several deaths. In Queensland, up to Saturday, the cases were confined to the visiting vessels, but on Saturday a case was reported at Warwick.—Aiis.-N.Z, Cable Assn. THE LOSS INVOLVED. Received April 12, 5.5 p.m. London, April 5, Kinsley Wood, at the National Health Conference, said that influenza had involved a loss of £120,000,000 sterling, whereas the Government gave only £65,000 for research.
